IATCB is the International Avian Trainers Certification Board, an independent body established to develop and manage certification of avian trainers. The board of directors of IATCB is:
Chairman - Sid Price, CPBT-KA
Sid Price is the owner and founder of Avian Ambassadors based in Tijeras, New Mexico and is a past-president of the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators (IAATE). He served on the board of directors of IAATE from 2003 to 2013.
Secretary & Treasurer - Jayne Hardwick, CPBT-KA
Jayne Hardwick came to the zoo profession with a Bachelor’s Degree in public relations and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. Joining the Animal Behavior Management department at the Jacksonville Zoo in 1995, she worked with birds, mammals and reptiles, conditioning and training everything from target training a tortoise, conditioning macaws to accept feather trimming without restraint, and conditioning a Red-tailed hawk to accept talon trimming while standing on a perch. While at Jacksonville, she also assisted in creating their Environmental Enrichment program and chaired the committee as a resource for keepers developing enrichment options for the zoo collection. She went on to the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis, Missouri where she supervised free-flight bird shows and worked with native and non-native eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, vultures, parrots, corvids, and a variety of water fowl.
As the Registrar at the Naples Zoo in Naples, Florida, Jayne continued to assist the Show Department by presenting animal shows, training and handling animals. Although her heart belongs to raptors, Jayne has trained Green mambas for husbandry, hawks, vultures and owls for flight, and an African Cape porcupine for presentation in shows. Currently the Registrar at Central Florida Zoo, Jayne continues to enjoy providing the Animal Department Staff with husbandry, behavior and veterinary support.
General Board Member - Arianna Bailey, CPBT-KA
Arianna (Ari) began working in the professional animal industry in 2006. Her career began by working with reptiles, mainly crocodilians, at a small zoo in Orlando. This is where she first found a passion for training, enrichment and animal behavior. Following her desire to learn more about behavior she sought out a position with Natural Encounters Inc. and was hired in January of 2009 to join their free-flight bird show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. She recently helped lead up a new indoor free-flight bird show with NEI at the Kansas City Zoo.
Ari is an IAATE member and a member of the IAATE Enrichment committee. She leads the enrichment program for Natural Encounters Inc. at their Disney’s Animal Kingdom location where she enjoys enriching all of the birds in the collection, especially the raptors.
General Board Member - Nicki Boyd, CPBT-KA
Nicki Boyd is the Behavior Husbandry Manager at the San Diego Zoo. Her educational background includes graduating from Moorpark College’s Exotic Animal Training and Management Program, Mesa College’s Animal Health Technician Program, with an Associate in Science Degree, and has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
She has worked for Dr. Jenkins Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital, Our Feathered Friends, a toucan breeder (Jerry Jennings) and now at the San Diego Zoo for the last 20 years is various departments such as zoo keeper at the Children’s Zoo and Veterinary Hospital, Behavior Department, Animal Care Manager and now as the Behavior Husbandry Manager. She was on the San Diego American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) board of directors for 17 years and has been a member of that organization for 20 years. Nicki is also the Chief Financial Officer for the Animal Behavior Management Alliance (ABMA) and has been on the board of directors for 5 years, and a member for 11 years. She is a founding member of the Association for Professional Wildlife Educators (APWE) and has been member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) for the past 6 years.
She has experience with free flight shows with hawks, glove-training owls, vultures, Andean condor, psittacines and various softbills. Her role as Behavior Husbandry Manager is to set up training programs all over the San Diego Zoo and is the department head for Animal Connections which includes all the show areas at the zoo.
General Board Member - Kelly Garrison, CPBT-KA, CIG
Kelly graduated with from the University of Georgia with a double major of Animal and Dairy Science. She began working at the Birmingham Zoo in 2005. Her career started as a part time keeper working in the Children’s Zoo Barn. Six months later she was hired into a full time roll. Working and training animals for the wild life shows and educating the public quickly became her passion. In 2010 the Animal Programs and Interpretation Department was formed at the zoo and it was an easy decision on where her heart fell. She is now the manager for this department and has worked hard to have a mixed species shows including free flight birds. Kelly is a Certified interpretive Guide and uses her skills as an interpreter to educate and inform the public on the importance of conservation. She is also the chairs of the Animal Training Committee and Interpretive Committees for the zoo.
The examinations are developed by working groups of individual experts from each knowledge domain in each examination. These experts are invited to join the ad-hoc working groups by the IATCB board.
